Some famous shopping complexes where branded items can be found include Bagatelle Mall, Grand Baie La Croisette, Caudan Waterfront, Cascavelle Shopping Village, Phoenix Mall, Riche Terre Mall.
There are many individual shops around towns and villages selling unbranded clothing, footwear and accessories at a low cost. Most Mauritians believe that market fairs have a wider variety of products at a better price. In fact, surprisingly, many of the items are of high quality and last long. Some famous market fairs are the ones at Port Louis – which most Mauritians visit – Quatre Bornes and Rose Hill.

Mado Parfums is a very popular shop in Mauritius, with many outlets around the island. In addition to perfumes, the shop also sells cosmetics from international brands such as Guerlain, Lancôme, Chanel etc. adopt’ is another well-known shop in this category. Phydra and the Face Shop are famous for their cosmetics and skincare products. Lovers of the Polish makeup brand Inglot will be happy to know that the brand has an outlet in Grand Baie La Croisette.
Jewellery
One of the most famous jewellery shops in Mauritius is Adamas. It has many outlets. Floreal, on the central plateau, houses the first diamond-cutting workshop in Mauritius. Swarovski is also available, at Bagatelle Mall. Moreover, you will be amazed to see how Mauritian jewellery shops have adapted their designs and materials in order to walk with modern times and cater for everyone’s needs.
Affordable imitation jewellery is available in many shops in different parts of Mauritius (the likes of Rose Hill, Quatre Bornes and Port Louis for instance). The designs look so genuine that they might be mistaken for expensive ones.
Handmade jewellery by Mauritians, made from shells or pearls, are very much appreciated by tourists. These can be purchased from the Craft Market at the Caudan Waterfront.

What better gift can there be from the island of handicraft than a handmade one? Wood-burnt keychains and jewellery boxes, essential oils, natural soaps, paintings and wooden trinkets can be found at the Craft Market, while handmade baskets, hats, handbags and plush dodos can be bought from the first floor of the Port Louis central market.
Market fairs and individual shops (selling unbranded items) give an authentic Mauritian vibe. Added to the low cost of the items, the warmer and more humane interaction that is possible with these sellers make the shopping experience even more enjoyable. On the other hand, shopping centres attract a great number of people with its large spaces, food-courts and parking areas.
