VISA MAURITIUS
On Friday 23 October 2020 the Council of Ministers approved a new visa for a period of one year, renewable. This was announced in order to encourage eligible visitors to come to Mauritius for long stays and teleworkers who wish to work outside France.
This would allow non-citizens to come to Mauritius.
Those who can submit an application for this new visa are first and foremost “regular” tourists who had thought of retiring and migrating to our soil before the Covid-19 pandemic: retirees living in countries where the coronavirus is rife and who might be persuaded to come and live in a safe destination.
Investors and professionals willing to stay there with their family, while managing their business or working remotely from Mauritius; they could also offer this opportunity to their employees. Above all, this opportunity also targets people whose children are studying in Mauritius. To qualify for the "Premium Visa", these visitors must provide proof of their long-stay plan, travel health insurance, accommodation and other documents necessary for the initial period of their visit.
Rest assured that the highest sanitary standards and protocols will be maintained to ensure the health safety of visitors as well as the premises to ensure that Mauritius remains a safe destination.
The following points must also be observed:
Those interested will not be allowed to look for work in the local market. You will also need to prove that your income will not be derived from an activity originating in Mauritius, but rather from the activity in your home country. All other entry requirements for Mauritius will also apply.
They are optimistic:
The EDB "Economic Development Board of Mauritius" is in the process of finalizing details with the Passport & Immigration Office before putting this offer online.
According to economist Mr. Swadicq Nuthay, this plan should have been introduced a long time ago: “We do not sell the destination just for its beach and its sun, but to allow people, who have no freedom in their country to 'origin, to have it with us. People are not going to come because they want to come to Mauritius. Already the cost of living is relatively high, ”he says.
Before Covid-19, between 60,000 and 80,000 tourists were staying in Mauritius for more than three months. Each year, we welcome 1.4 million tourists. There are 4,000 people who own property under the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), Real Estate Scheme (RES) and Property Development Scheme (PDS).
Not to mention the 3,000 to 4,000 foreign students.
