Here are the steps to follow to obtain this permit and bring your pet to Mauritius:
1. Submit an application for an import permit at least 3 to 6 months before departure, to the Ministry of Agro-Industry's veterinary department.
2. Gather the required documents, including:
- Completed import application form
- Cover letter explaining reason for stay and duration
- Copy of residence/work permit for non-citizens
- Sterilization certificate
- Copy of up-to-date vaccination record
- Letter of authorization if using a representative
3. Send the file by e-mail to moa-dvs@mail.govmu.org or contact the veterinary service on +230 454 1016.
4. Obtain import permit upon approval, payment of fees and confirmation of quarantine availability.
5. Notify the veterinary service at least 4 days before the animal's arrival, specifying the arrival time and flight number.
6. Go to the airport to receive the animal and complete customs formalities.
Specific requirements for dogs
Certain breeds of dog are not allowed to be imported into Mauritius. Check that your dog's breed is authorized before submitting your application.
Prohibited breeds include :
- American Pit Bull Terrier,
- American Staffordshire Terrier,
- Staffordshire Terrier,
- Blue Nose Pit Bull,
- Red Nose Pit Bull,
- Japanese Tosa,
- Dogo Argentino,
- Fila Brasileiro, and
- Boerboel.
