    Retired non-citizen +50 years in Mauritius

    Non-citizen retiree, the conditions to obtain a 10 years residence permit in Mauritius:

    • -  Have a regular and stable pension of USD 1,500 or its equivalent in foreign currency per month OR a total of USD 18,000 or its equivalent in foreign currency per year in a Mauritian bank account in your name.

    Be eligible for a 20-year permanent residence permit after 3 consecutive years.

    Eligibility of dependants (spouse, parents, children and grandchildren under 24) for a dependent residence permit for the same duration as the main permit.

    Non-taxable on funds transferred to Mauritius.


    How do I qualify for a Retired Visa as a non-citizen over the age of 50?

    A non-citizen retiree must present a certified bank statement from the country of origin or residence, showing:
    At least USD 18,000 OR a guaranteed minimum income of USD 1,500 per month.

    Is it possible to buy a home in Mauritius on a Retired Visa?
     
    As a foreign citizen, it is possible to acquire residential property under the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS), the Real Estate Scheme (RES), the Property Development Scheme (PDS), the Smart City Scheme (SCS) or an R+2 apartment.

    In addition, a foreigner holding a residence permit under the IRS/RES/PDS is not required to hold an occupation or work permit to invest and work in Mauritius.

    Do I need to travel to Mauritius to start the Retired Visa application process?

    It is possible to start the application process online without having to travel to Mauritius. The online platform of the National Electronic Licensing System (NELS) is specially designed to manage the whole process: from submission to the issue of the approval letter. To do this, you need to register on the site https://business.edbmauritius.org/.

    What documents do I need to apply for a Retired Visa?
     
    • NEW APPLICATION: preliminary documents to be downloaded online for approval in principle -  Passport - Biodata page
    •  
    -  Birth certificate - original. If not, a certified copy certified by a competent authority must be submitted.
    1 recent passport-size digital color photograph - size 3.5 cm (413 pixels) x 4.5 cm (531 pixels) (less than six months old)
    -  Certificate of good character/police clearance covering the last ten years - less than six months old
    -  Bank statement (Proof of funds available on the certified bank statement of the retired non-citizen's country of origin or residence)
    -  Undertaking completed and signed by the applicant.
    -  Copy of any other permits, if applicable - Occupation permit/work permit/residence permit
    -  Documents to be uploaded after approval in principle
    -  Marriage/divorce certificate - original. If not, a certified copy sworn by a competent authority must be submitted.
    -  Medical certificate and reports - less than six months old
    -  Last entry Visa pages
    -  Copy of any other permits, if applicable - Occupation/work/residence permit
    -  Any other documents that may be required.

    -  Copy of residence permit
    -  Certificate of good character for the last 3 years in Mauritius - less than six months old

    Documents uploaded before and after approval in principle must be presented in original at the appointment.

    What are my tax obligations?

    Funds transferred to Mauritius are not subject to tax. Moreover, Mauritius is not subject to wealth tax or inheritance tax.

    However, it is necessary for a non-citizen retiree to provide information concerning current residences in other jurisdictions, including tax homes. The Republic of Mauritius will share this information with the tax authority in Mauritius to comply with the Common Reporting Standard (CRS).

    What happens after 10 years?

    You can renew your residence permit on expiry for a further 10 years (file required in supra).
